That is absolutely chilling about the Charlie Kirk search. I had no idea that what google is showing you first is AI(I guess I should pay attention more) Thanks for the wake up call.
I certainly can tell you about hallucinations. When I’m in need of quick & dirty data confirmation, I’ve entered 10 medical journal article titles into any of the standard bots asking for the reference in the National Library of Medicine, only to find that every single response is absolutely loony. When I then tell chatGPT this fact, it “apologizes” & corrects & provides 10 more lunatic responses. Again I complain, rinse & repeat. Only this time it literally admits it has no clue what the references I’m looking for might actually be & apologies for not telling me to begin with. Last week, I asked for a comparative epidemiological statistic & it literally asked me a question, “You must pick from the 4 responses below, A, B, C, D.” NO! WTF I’m the one asking the questions here! Unbelievable. This is not a “prime time” technology” in my opinion! If I were seeking first aid when I was bleeding, you would be reading my obit right now. Sam Altman is raising a soon-to-be helpless child if his father is consulting chatGPT 5.2
If you google something and just put -ai after the search terms it will remove the the AI summary at the top.
Loved this article and the one on billionaires being their own race.
I also found Alt_man's comments to be extremely misogynistic. Devaluing the child rearing that has primarily been the work of women. I want to see ChatGPT breast fed, burp and change a diaper, wipe snot, kiss boo boos, etc. Now that men are asked to be involved, now we need a computer to tell us how to do it?
I had not seen the Rogan clip, I cannot listen to one minute of his idiotic voice and you reminded me why. As Neil DeGrasse Tyson said about him and I am paraphrasing, he is a curious person but doesn't care if the answers he gets to his questions are true, is too dumb to know, and too lazy to find out. That is a dangerous combo.
The more I see, the more I’m thinking of (the overuse of) AI as realization of “The Terminator” franchise. It might be ok for filling in some quick background but in the long run it’s something that saps our creativity, curiosity and the ability to think for ourselves. And yeah, I’m old.
But there is one good thing I’ve discovered about AI, partly from experience. It’s better at reading medical images and sorting through complex symptoms than most physicians are.
Fantastic article and what a wonderful chat on PBS. As for AI, my son (who worked with it) warned me a year ago about how dangerous it was becoming. The fact that this country has allowed it to run unchecked (while other countries are restricting its use) is a testament to how little these brocorporations (and the politicians whom they support) care about decency, integrity and the future of the human race. I could barely get through one minute of that insane Kimmel clip and forget about AI Jesus. Congratulations on keeping the issue alive (and maybe - please - you could resume the United Shades series somewhere else)?! Nice merch.
This post is so spot on. I have been reading books about AI for months to try and wrap my head around what I know in my gut to be deep B.S. spouted by clowns like Alt_man. LLMs and Deepfakes have now destroyed the internet with their slop. Chat bots are ubiquitous and filled with the same mind numbing junk. The latest book I'm reading is, The Empire of AI: Dreams and Nightmares in Sam Altman's OpenAI by Karen Hao. I highly recommend it if you want to understand who is driving this racist, misogynist, planet destroying train.
I'm one of those "old and refusing to adapt" types. Whenever I'm in one of those meetings where we will be "introduced to" (meaning forced to use) some new stuff I'm one of those who'll be labeled "resistant to change".
I refuse to use "my" business copilot. If I send you an email it will have been me who has written that email. A good one on a good day and a lousy one one a bad day. But always me.
If I give a summary, a conclusion, it will be based on what I researched. It will not be the vomit of some machine.
The likes of Alt_man (love it Mr. KB), of Suckerberg (did I misspell? Oops.... not sorry!) and Grok (or is it Musk? I always confuse those two) have no business telling me what to do.
(a good rant from time to time is good for the nervous system)
Now here's what I found out (what a friend taught me). When you do a search on the internet there is a way to avoid the Alt_man BS. You type your search and add -ai at the end.
At least that way you will not get the ai summary of the day as first result.
And talking of that summary. Please indulge yourself and ask the same question with slight variations.... you'll love it how the machine wanders of..... a bit like that wannabe dictator-king on the roof of the White House.....
I hate what AI is doing to our minds and culture. Try Googling “how to eliminate AI from online search”. There are sorta easy options to avoid it. For now.
Last spring I had to sit through an all-day seminar on AI at the university where I teach. We had a tech executive and what I can only describe as a branded Phd, LLC as our two keynote speakers. The whole thing was meant to get us all excited about our students having AI agents accompanying through their college educations and really pump us up for the AI our own university will be building and deploying. Why have them write boring old essays when they can turn their fake ideas about texts they didn't read into a SUPER FUN FAKE PODCAST ?!? My job is teaching students to write. The entire day made me feel insane.
Omg so it CAN get worse!! I work at a CA CC, and our faculty is so darn torn. We are mostly finding folks in the humanities near fully against while the sciences are pushing for the college to review adoption and policy takes. It's a wild time in higher ed no matter, but the AI issue is far out-pacing our administration's bandwidth to make informed and careful decisions/policies.
I have spent way too much time (at work) always ending in frustration searching for the steps to turn OFF the "Copilot" A.I. logo in the bottom left corner of every MS Word document I am working on. None of the online answers lead me to the solution. "Go to File - Options and uncheck the enable Copilot box" - there is NO such box, no Copilot anywhere in the Options menu in 365. "Go to Preferences and..." - there is NO "Preferences" anywhere in Word.
Do you think Google et al.'s algorithms are burying the actual solution (assuming there is one), instead offering BS "answers" so people just give up and live with it? It is clearly being forced down our throats by the powers that be.
Joe rogan is an idiot. So sick of AI being forced on us. Thanks for the comic recommendation gonna watch her on dropout tonight! Thanks again for getting me out of my comfort zones to volunteer at an adult special needs non profit farm which grows “Produce for People “ and donates to local food banks - www.cultivatinginclusionfarm.com
An excellent read. Got to the ridiculously stupid remarks by Rogan. I have never listened to him before then. What an idiot! AI is scary to me. I appreciate the information on what it is doing to our Mother Earth. I had no idea. Thanks.
Always a good day when I have the luxury of time to read and click through one of your posts! I really enjoyed the PBS Rochester interview. Well done! Also love the comment about Elon being born on third base and thinks he's hit a triple! You certainly have a gift with words...

Yeah. I didn’t realize it until it happened to me.

So well said. Thank you for this!

Ten out of ten for this one. Aced it!

I agree. If A.I. is a tool that is very different than if it is the main focus and driver of our entire society.✊🏿

So using that BS to raise a kid?
Love this. Very well said. And I know it is YOU who typed and thought it all!😁

Thanks for that.

Thank you! Best piece on AI I’ve read. Chilling and funny. I laughed ( for real!)
We have already let tech fuck up life as we know it. AI is the suplex from the top ring onto what’s left of our humanity. We are so screwed.

1. Thanks for making it to the end and seeing the Rogan thing.
2. WHOAH! Congratulations! I’m so happy for YOU! That is beautiful that you are volunteering. I’m so thankful that you shared this.
