I organized a peace vigil with the Imam from the Islamic Community Center, a hospice reverend, a rabbi, and a Reverend from the Napa Valley Center For Spiritual Living. I also am part of the organizing team for an LGBTQ+ support rally because a local school district was talking about letting parents opt their children out of LGBTQ+ education. It feels good to support the local community. I also signed up for a legal observer training, and I wrote a poem that I will read and a poetry event at a local bookstore about the genocide in Gaza. I want to find out more about education resources for LGBTQ+ at the middle school and high school levels.
Facebook/meta advertised the Chicago Theater for the Jeopardy thing! Maybe I’ll make it, but given I am still under employed, I’m not sure. Anyways, happy you’re working and using being a Jeopardy champion to your advantage. ☺️
I live in Minneapolis and would love to hear what people are thinking about mayoral candidates like New York City's Zohran Mamdani and our own Omar Fateh, both Democratic socialists. And as a tangentially connected question, where are all the congressional dems at? Is it just a bunch of shrugging shoulders at this point? Shouldn't the elected officials so many of us dem-leaning folks put in office get a little LOUDER?
(And maybe a good dessert recipe to sweeten my disposition or somethin. ha)
Nope. Actually. I think I'm rescinding my more thoughtful and restrained words from before. The school shooting that *just* happened this morning six blocks from my house (not that it MATTERS where any of this happens, EVER) is the latest in a spate of Minneapolis shootings. If Dems aren't willing to stand up and say, "Enough. It's clear this country can't safely or responsibly manage gun ownership. So, no more. Period." If they're not saying that, then they're just as in be with the NRA as anyone on either side. No more "gun control" laws. No more "responsible ownership." We've proved we as a country can't make it work. So, the current state is what we've now just decided is the new acceptable norm?
I live in DC and thank you for being one of the voices speaking about our occupation. I’d like to talk about ways to live through this. Low-cost/barrier self-care for individuals and groups
Have you noticed more people speaking up about the abuse of power since national guards were dispersed in DC , while the network pundits and legal commentarians have begun to speak up instead of refeeding the sensationalized rhetoric spewed from the tainted white house? And is it just me, but where's the empathy for our Californian neighbors being victimized? Vta cnty has been under attack since the beginning of this show down, lots of volunteers are on the ground with support, but I think we - and by we I mean, me, too - we could use some positive affirmations.
That was a really good session, thanx! (I continued smashing the heart even after you left, LOL.) I would encourage more people to become paid subscribers so they can enjoy these chats. It's a bargain for the price. :)
Quandaries... Why isn't the nation talking more about the obsession with our two party system? If we had robust support for additional parties, then the Dems and GOP would respond less to "corporations as people" and have to compromise more on the issues. Also, ranked-choice voting damnit!
Wasn't Pritzker's news conference on Monday fucking amazing, and why don't we see these type of high level events daily? Nearly all speakers were top notch truth-tellers.
Is anyone else leery of Newsom's trolling as too similar to tRump's tactics? I know that's his point, but Pritzker's approach is a more intelligent/strategic hit imo.
General quandary: Besides attending the occasional rally and reading like-minded Substacks, what can I DO to stay sane in these times?

Revision: if I can make it to any part of this I will because something I have been so curious about, of late, are your current thoughts on Newsom…
Dang it! I just started a new job and have a work training at that time. I hope this won’t be the last Kamau solo appearance Office Hours 🙏🏼
Congrats on the new job, Nicole!
Thank you so much, Kelly!! 🤍

Dang it! I could only join in during the last 5 mins. If there is a way to watch a recording, please let us know how to do that.
Thanks.

Sorry for this lengthy post!
