Never leave substack W Kamau because all that happens by removing your all important voice is that there leaves more room for the Nazis to move in. Stay with us. We have your back and are so grateful to you for sharing your courage and wisdom. 💔🇺🇸

Thank you, Kelly. I really appreciate your support and kind words.❤️

We were here first, and we used the platform to do good. Mr. Tate is a violent misogynist, a criminal, and truly vile excuse for a human. He deserves to rot in jail. I blocked & reported his account immediately, and whether the platform owners heed the demands to remove him or not (we all hope they do) I'm not letting 1 more dickwad like him push me out of a place I like and where I thrive. I am Trans and Autistic. It is already hard enough finding such places. Pieces of trash like Mr. Tate won't take this one from me.

I came on here to say I didn't know if Kamau should stay or go, but this energy you're bringing feels right to me. This is our house.

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

Stay or go, I’m making noise either way!

Alana Joy's avatar

I like the "finders, keepers" argument! We were first.

Inertia compels me to hope that you stay here with my other “Substack friends” as named in this piece; but that other definition of inertia (being attracted by a force) is also a factor and I will follow if you move on. But please stay.

Nicole Bertucci's avatar

Ooooh great idea, Kris!

Stephen JulesOtisCareer Rubin's avatar

idk should all the good people really flee cuz he's on here....we could get louder and drown out the hate and nonessne?

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

That is certainly an argument that makes sense.😬

I am glad you..and many of your followers apparently lol…agree…. Substack is all told the only well known used social media interaction group that is user friendly understandable open offers pay and free isn't filled with ads bots trolls and scum and has people dealing with problems…I would have no idea tate was on here if not told..it seems much more important we maintain this space unless someone had the means money and gumption to start something else…..now un monitored no consequence encouraged bot troll hate and ads like meta would be a let's get the bleep out of here I repeat my vote…let's stay together….and yes I tried to follow with respect every person who liked this comment earlier on ur page good sir to be connected to decent informed caring people and for no other reason and thank you.. I'll follow you if you decide to leave but we can't be leaving every time a criminal moves into the neighborhood or we'll be constantly moving. I can't believe he has so many followers - SCARY AF!!! He definitely needs to be moved to the CRIMINAL category. DO BETTER SUBSTACK!!!

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

Yes, the big takeaway here is DO BETTER, SUBSTACK!

Melissa L Weber's avatar

I love the idea of Substack adding a "CRIMINAL" category.

Alana Joy's avatar

I'm tiiiired of having to watch people build yet ANOTHER TABLE 'cuz of [waves hands wildly at the entire history of this nation + tech bros (the Venn diagram is a cirrrrrrrcle, Kamaaaaauuuu)].

I'll move wherever you move--even to Flebs--and you don't have to prorate my membership. But there is value in you throwing your You around *here*. Look at the two new-to-me Substack accounts I learned about just from this post!

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

I’m glad you learned about some new folks. That is the best thing about this platform. It has natural cross pollination that other platforms don’t have.

Chana L's avatar

If we go do they "win"? If we go who will fill the void we leave behind, like what happened with Twitter? If we go to Ghost (or other), how do we know other Nazi revolting, violent scum won't show up there, too?

If you decide to go I will follow you. But honestly, we need to change the sick culture that enables these monsters to thrive to begin with, beginning with the orange ooze in the oval office.

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

That’s the real challenge. Nazis (and however other white supremacist want to label themselves) are everywhere.

Chana L's avatar

I was driving back from the office today (Wed 4-22) and ended up behind a huge truck, which had the bible verse Drump read yesterday in huge block red and white letters on the back. I was dumbfounded.

The point being, they are indeed everywhere...

Mitch Jackson's avatar

Kamau, we need you here.

First let me share my opinion that Andrew Tate is disgusting and dangerous. What he stands for, what he is charged with, and what he peddles to young men online sickens me. I denounce every word he posts on this platform and every dollar he earns from it.

Having said that, the lawyer believes and argues that if we abandon every platform the moment a bad actor shows up, we hand the microphone to them. We silence ourselves. We surrender the space where real journalism, real legal analysis, real accountability, and real truth still get to live and breathe.

Substack is one of the last places where independent voices can reach the masses without a corporate filter, a political gatekeeper, or an algorithm designed to bury anything that matters. This new reality has never been more important. Walking away from that does not hurt Andrew Tate. It hurts you. It hurts me. It hurts every reader who depends on writers like us to tell the truth when nobody else will.

So I would suggest that you stay and write louder. Write sharper. Drown him and everyone like him out with facts, with reporting, and with the kind of work that actually changes minds. That is how we all fight people like Tate. Not by running. By standing our ground and outworking the garbage.

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

Whatever I do, I promise to be loud. And I will certainly be as loud as possible however long I’m on this platform.

Mitch Jackson's avatar

That’s all any of us can do, along with taking massive action. Thank you for all you’ve done and continue to do!

And one more thing, let’s not let too many people get distracted from all this noise. We need to focus on getting everyone registered to vote, and then actually placing their vote, in the midterms. That’s my focus right now.

And humor is powerful

Pamela Beck's avatar

W.--Stay with Substack for the reasons you outline early in the piece (doh!).

Good job today going into trenchant detail about Tate's "piece of shittiness."

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

Thank you. I felt like I had to spell it out in detail to make sure that Substack leadership understood that I know what I’m talking about.

MEGAN WINDELER's avatar

I was going to write this same comment! So I’ll tag along here. The side of Substack that we’re on here is so vibrant. The long reads, the historians, journalists, essayists etc and their communities are so heartening and connective! Please stay.

The right wing 💩 is going to show up everywhere at some point. I report them when I come across them.

Katharine Duke's avatar

Please do not leave W. Kamau Bell. Substack needs you now more than ever. As other commentors have pointed out ... leaving makes it easier for the trash to move in.

Words cannot adequately describe my disappoint and disgust in @Substack for allowing the hateful Tate to join this community.

SHAME on you @ChrisBest

SHAME on you @HamishMcKenzie

SHAME on you @JairajSethi

I think the Epstein analogy with Chase and other bankers is useful in its application to the Substack execs' tolerance of convicted rapists and pedophiles like Tate. They should think about the eminent people whose reputations have gone down the drain: Senator George Mitchell's name has been removed from many places in Northern Ireland where he was honored as a peacemaker. Deepak Chopra! And many more affected by Epstein file revelations.

David Daniels IV's avatar

I feel fortunate not to have interacted with any of that ilk on this platform; I aim to keep it that way. Their presence won’t move me one way or another; I come from a long line who knew better than to be run off by that type, especially when there’s good work to be done.

David Daniels IV's avatar

all day errday

Kamau - thank you for another powerful article. Selfishly, I’d like you to stay on Substack. You are the antidote to scum like the Tate bros, and I’d hate to see you go while they stay. Your point about black people being driven away by the white supremacists from things they created is true. So, if it doesn’t make you crazy to stay & fight on, I say stay. But, if you don’t,

please let us know where to find you next. Love your work - keep on keeping on.

mstruck2's avatar

I refuse to be the one to leave. As a 71 year old woman, I have been pushed out too many times. Enough. Instead, tell me how to send a letter to Mr. Best. Would he subject his mother to this abuse? What kind of a son is he?

Maggie Osborne's avatar

Please don't go!

I don't think I can learn to navigate yet another social media space. Have mercy on the Nana's who love you!

W. Kamau Bell's avatar

HAHA! I definitely always think of the Nanas out there! I definitely don’t want to put you Nanas through too much. You all are doing enough.

Eric Staton's avatar

I will follow you where ever you go. Long time fan from Totally Biased days and your Denzel Washington podcast. I'm not a fan of substack but on here because of you and some others

Catherine Massey's avatar

Me too!

Stay! So well said. Substack management CEO Chris Best, COO Hamish McKenzie and CTO Jairaj Sethi all need to respond to this and justify supporting and allowing known despicable sex crime criminals in the category of News. How does that happen? Would they be aware of your post? If it is $$$ we are aware and warned. Are readers responsible for marking a contributor inappropriate? I would not go to his post to do that. Gross. You need to continue and not give up even though I think all of us are still trying to have hope about cult media in the USA.

As much as I am tempted to leave substack I feel like I would be deserting all the incredible people I follow here and I don't want you to go either. I permantly left Facebook and sometimes I don't know when people I used to know have died, I had no doubt it was time to go. I am not there with Substack and don't want you to be there either. Please help us find a way to protest this without leaving. This is my newspaper now as I no longer subscribe to mainstream media.
