Thanks for the breakdown of the JR experience. We don't need any more of his ilk and the Left needs to figure out what it really wants to be and who to listen to. I really dislike Rogan for how he insulted Dr. Hotez. I know about the Dr.'s good work because I interviewed the amazing Catherine Coleman Flowers for the Earth Island Journal and in our conversation she talked about the parasitology study she commission from him to study the parasitic diseases she was finding in rural Lowndes County Alabama. Dr. Hotez is for darn sure too busy doing real medical and scientific work to ever debate RFK Jr. And speaking of that conspiracy monger, as I wade through the denunciations and praise for Trump's appointees, I've seen some references to RFK Jr. as "Bobby Kennedy". The real Bobby Kennedy was the lesser son's father Robert Francis Kennedy. I make this point to keep us all straight on our history. The name Bobby was bestowed by the press, I believe, and taken up by those Americans who deeply admired Robert F. Kennedy Senior and his ideals.

This is a very succinct summary of the angle Rogan is coming from. The only time I ever listened to Rogan was the first time you were on. That was enough for me.

As a white male, I'm sick and tired of how white males that continue to dominate the headlines, newsmakers and conversations, after hundreds (if not more) of years.

Equal means equal! Smash the patriarchy!

Great article Kamau. I am always struck by people, overwhelmingly straight men in my experiences, not all white these days, all who claim to be "non political" that have decided that their support for Joe Rogan is the hill they're willing to die on. Even after everything I've read about the issue, his fandom and the man himself I still cannot reconcile the issue. I don't know if it is completely about our problem as a nation with male fragility and toxic masculinity but fuck if it doesn't seem like it is. One look at the completely unhinged responses you've gotten to this post on Instagram seem to back this up. People on IG who say they've supported you for "years" but THIS is somehow too far for them. What the actual fuck. Am I missing something here? I'm struggling.

Isn't Howard Stern already filling the role less effectively?

I’ve been meaning to upgrade to paid and I did just to comment and say 1) Joe Rogan Experience and 2) if you’re looking for a side kick I’m over-educated, under employed, and highly entertaining. And I’ve already got a Shure mic on a boom arm.

Well, I read the rest of your post (and commented before doing so). I’m gonna pretend I didn’t try to be the side kick and just slink away now…

When are you coming to Philly? I didn't see it on the list. Loved your last zoom meeting. Very educational and fun. Franchesca is da bomb!🔥

Dr. Hotez is one of my heroes. <3

I would rather see Joe kick his friend Greg's wheelchair down the stairs just for shits & giggles. And btw, when he was a reporter, Mark Twain was not above making up stories for his newspaper for the same reason. The only difference is, his stories didn't run on 24-hour-news TV. LOL

A great part of being an old Lefty is not knowing the names of.. these people. Yeah I’ve seen Rogan’s name and has the sense of his absurdity. How glad I am to only know from you all I’ve missed! Phew.

So who? Dunno. I appeared on Donahue (z”l man and show) years ago. I’m not funny tho and I was only a guest on a bunch of shows on controversial (more now) issue of choosing non-parenthood. (Uh huh now a cat tho she is single & I’m not.)

Do we need a .. what’s a good militia? .. to work the left?

JRE (insert monkey SFX), I have thoughts 1/many: In Jan 2021 the Joe Rogan Experience became an exclusive broadcast on Spotify. While Feb of 2021 marked the final episode of Rush Limbaugh's career and he died shortly after in the same month. To me it is probably not a coincidence that Joe started leaning super hard into "woke" culture during Limbaugh's declining years. There was a weekly audience of 15+ million looking for the "conservative comedy" that they were accustomed to getting on AM radio for decades, and I'm sure the demography did not escape the suits at Spotify, Joe, Bill Maher, and to a degree Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle to name a few. So whether overt or subconscious the decision to play to that audience was too easy and an excuse to print $$$.

– I tend to give Chapel a huge pass bc he's still hella funny, but when his setup is, "What does punching down even mean..." Come on, really? that's just lazy.

"[They're] starting to see the seams of his personality pull apart like a hot cinnamon roll"--why, Kamau? Why?! Now I'm gonna think of yucky Joe Rogan when I just wanna enjoy delicious ooey gooey cinnamon rolls?! How dare you! 😂
