Kamau! Thank you for writing about Sinners. Your push was needed for me to see it (don't like horror) Don't know if you saw #1 on the Call Sheet (HBO) Ryan is clearly up there with the greats. He's getting the same disrespect that Spike Lee got for years. SAMI is absolutely, positively incredible! I saw the 4/12 show at Berkeley Rep - my husband and I could not believe her voice and confidence, she hit every note perfectly - it was a treat to see her perform. Your Mom! Juno! I have not laughed that hard in a while and it was much needed.

one of my favorite theatre experiences was seeing a touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar with Corey Glover as Judas (and OG film Jesus Ted Neeley playing a 66-year-old title character, lol). glad to see Glover still out there hittin' the high notes!

After recently watching Mr. McMahon on Netflix and allowing that to tie together so many things that led us to where our country is today, and as a 42-year-old man who adored Hulk Hogan in my youth, I might have to delete watching that Living Colour WrestleMania entry from my YouTube history but 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 And thanks for this glimpse into a day in the life!

I love EVERY thing Ryan Coogler does - he’s one of my top 5 fave directors! The way entertainment business journalists are talking about how “interestingly kind” his deal was with the studio is just code for them being surprised a black man made that kind of deal. Aka Racism. Literally Quentin made the same exact deal for “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” But I digress. I highly suggest everyone see it in 70mm. And go back and rewatch “Fruitvale station!” Bring tissues. Also WKB - I’ve watched your work since Totally Biased and never knew the W stands for WALTER! 🙂

So. Damn. Much. Good. Whatever kind of connection this whole virtual/substacky/social meeds world grants us... I'm glad for it. In another lifetime, I performed at Berkeley Rep and was in that theater and dressing room myself. (Your almost throw away line about airports in the south not showing CNN was too good.) The lift up/shout out to the fantastic Mahogany Mommies was a joy. To hear a recent performance of Vernon Reid wail on his instrument while Corey Glover soars (with a li'l Rick Rubin in the crowd enjoying the whole thing), a gift. And a kick in the a** to go see Sinners? Want to. Will Do.

I remember in a recent Zoom Office Hours, I got fan girled that Kate S. agreed with my comment not to believe the lie that so many ignorant folks in position of power want us to believe -- that there aren't people doing real acts of worthwhile, active good. There are. You're one of 'em. Thank you for stirrin' us up.

(Congrats on the Jeopardy win. Rooting for you.)

The only airport I love more than Burbank is Long Beach, best in the business. Thanks for taking us along with you on the journey of a day in show business, one dance step at a time 🤍

That was fun to watch! And made me chuckle when the auto-caption translated “Thank you, Black Jesus” to “Thank you, Black Keys”. 😆

Thanks for thr behind the scenes. I've followed you for years. Your work on United Shades reaffirmed for me that we can be on this planet unapologetic. And BTW, did you get more food than 2 bananas and an orange in your Jhud green room?

I saw SInners this past weekend and helped Sinners beat The Accountant for number 1 and make history for having a huge 2nd week. Tom Cruise just recommended that everyone see Sinners even though his movie is coming out soon! Fresh Air (Tonya Mosley) has a wonderful interview of Ryan. Sinners for me, a Japanese-American, was a love story by and for African Americans that everyone can love.

Need to boycott Mission Impossible being released on May 23, made by the Ellisons who forced CBS to sell out to their family oligarchy.

Easy steps so stand up!

It’s tom Cruise after all so no big loss….
