Honestly, I don't think I would ever be a billionaire. The money would flow out of my hands so fast that I would never accumulate enough to reach that status. Every program that needed financial capital to sustain their work would get it from me (and to be clear, mutual aid organizations and grassroots campaigns would top the list). Maybe I would buy a super-conservative politician just to fuck with their sense of self. Imagine Lindsay Graham shilling for JVP and calling for an end to genocide. One can dream!
Smiled the minute I read your first line! From the time I was a little girl (early ‘50s) my parents (z”l) had to keep me from going in and out each door of our town’s department store and giving money to Salvation Army. [My dad, a WWII vet, spoke highly of them and all they did for soldiers. It was long before we knew they were anti-LGBTQAI.]. As I got older and started babysitting and then got an after school & weekend job at 14, I was told to save what I earned. Never frivolous, I found ways to help others. I still, on a limited income, give almost all I have away once bills are paid. My rationale: I have a roof and food; Medicare covers much of my illness expenses; my only splurge are great cards from Blue artists to send to others, acts of kindness. So unless someone gives me a bunch, naw… it too won’t last long enough!
As a billionaire in the here and now I would create the greatest and most incorruptible private investigation agency which would have one mission. That mission being to discover Cheeto’s achilles heel. Then share freely with the world via my Super Duper Media Disruptor and Interceptor…a la the Max Headroom signal hijacking of Chicago in the 80s.
I've been asking myself the same question for a long time: Why bother amassing all that fuck-you money, if you never tell anyone to fuckoff? Especially someone as abhorrent and racist as tfg?
my billionaire dream:
* buy up land for community gardens, especially in food/grocery deserts. teach people how to grow and preserve their own food
* expand on carnegie libraries by building community maker spaces with tool libraries, classes for sewing, repair, cooking, etc.
* work on integrating childcare and eldercare into communities.
(lego for everyone will have to wait for multi-billionaire tier)
(I am so grateful that you asked such a simple -- and gear halting -- question. What do these folks want if they already have money? And they already have power? My brows won't UNfurrow now)
With that kind of money, I'd challenge myself every day to keep getting tired. To exhaust myself by listening to and learning from people who know so much more than I do about how to use that money to make long-lasting ripples for good, for justice, for science. (I've heard that people who come into a lot of money suddenly, fall into deep depressions. I can believe it. So I think that's why I've also never "dreamed" about big money. That said... )
BTW and FWIW -- may all of us crybabies unite! There's power in empathy, though it comes at a cost, I guess.
Thank you very much. You're absolutely right. One side note from my dear departed father "Never discount stupidity as a reason." In any event, if all of a sudden I became a billionaire, I'd give it away with both hands to fulfill the needs of those who need housing, food, health care, education, and clean water through responsible channels. Carter Foundation comes to mind first, but you get the idea. I'd want to do it in such a way as to not blow through all of the capital at once. And I'd be anonymous because I like being a public servant at the local level working for clean water and wastewater--and regulatory compliance. I've been a thousandaire my entire life and am working past retirement age. Some day, some of these ya-hoos will understand the importance of not lying (commission, omission, or to themselves--the worst sin), cheating, or stealing. Love one another 🖖🤗🥰❤️
Honestly, it would look a lot like it looks now. Get up, workout, I’d spend less time doing the basics (like seriously, would someone please come over and get meals made? Grocery shopping and cooking is a never ending drag on my time) I’d be funding things that matter, health care, schools. And a huge animal shelter that had a staff of behaviorist and paid its employees well.
Easy-- I'd spend it on making health care accessible for everybody. Period. This would require a multi-pronged approach, and probably help from some of the other billionaires on this comment chain. We want healthcare for all, and also a complete revamp of the pricing structure of everything in medicine (and public health, while we're at it). And if it doesn't sound too selfish, I'd like to set aside a little bit of money so I can have an in-ground pool in my backyard. With a sliding board. I've always wanted one. You're all invited over.
I’ll go in on this with you Catherine and let’s add in solving hunger too! My splurge? Free music festival with my favorite bands here in the Bay, take over the whole Oakland Coliseum complex, because we don’t get nearly enough rock acts coming through here anymore. Metallica, Slipknot, and Judas Priest would all headline a day… Maybe Spinal Tap would reform too. Definitely whatever band Howard Jones is fronting, Sevendust, Nonpoint, Rage Against The Machine and System of a Down would be there…I’d also start a fund for young bands to help pay for their first tour. Live music is the best therapy. I had some last week when we spontaneously bopped over the bridge to catch one of my favorite young bands, Alien Weaponry from Aotearoa, at the Regency. Highly recommend. Definitely we would have comedy at this festival too. Anyway. I would spread good health, full bellies, and joy with my billions. Since W. Kamau is handling the education part, we’d be in great shape!
If I were a Billionaire I would give more than most of it away, specifically, I would create a non-profit to distribute funds to school districts throughout the country that would update the school buildings, a non-profit to retain legitimate scholars to write, publish and distribute history and anthropology textbooks, provide tuition funds where needed with all other costs paid.
I would make my own life easier, but I wouldn't buy an island or a country or slave labor. I would not use the money to build and launch spacecraft.
I have never thought about this as I never expected or desired to amass money.
All I've got is this: Once in college (New Testament class if you can believe it), a professor did a read through of all of the surreal things in a certain passage about the resurrection. The concluding point was something when something makes no sense, you aren't looking at what it's really trying to tell you. My take on this behavior is that we have a shadow government now, and they aren't so much working for DT as waiting for him to die.
You mean "soft" like what Stacy Keach said to Jeff Bridges near the end of "Fat City." Check it out, my movie buff. <3
I wish I were a billionaire! My dream is to start an emergency vet clinic in my town so I wouldn't hafta drive an hour to the nearest one when my dog is dying.
As for Donald, he may be a shitty POTUS, but he is the perfeck king of our new TikTokracy!
No such thing as a moral/ethical billionaire, so I wouldn't be one 🤷🏼♀️ give it allllllll away and fix the system that somehow gave it to me in the first place. You don't earn that money. You steal it off the backs of the working class.
Isn’t LeBron a good example? An Ohioan by birth, I was upset when he left hs to play professional ball. EVERYthing I’ve read is he’s earned his millions on talent & hard work & is a superb philanthropist with money and time. David Rubinstein is more “out there” and seems to be doing good to promote democracy.

😭
Here’s one for you from a u tube Colbert Report show: “If Trump is gone before I wake, I pray the lord the news ain’t fake!”♥️😉
Hearty laughter! Thank you!
If I were a billionaire, I’d buy Meta and shut it down.
A great plan!!!

I love that your plan is so specific!!🤣
Much practice via reading comics and daydreaming various alternate scenarios. Heh

Horrifyingly agree

Just upgraded to top-level sub just for this
Awwwww… thank you!
Dear Maga males, you can’t be a coward and masculine at the same time. Pick one.
