I was so embarrassed by the pink-suited pretenders and the paddle-pushers. Thank goodness for Rep. Green for speaking out. That 2020 photo op/faux protest still embarrasses me every time I think about it. Sometimes it feels like I'm the only Democrat who got fed up with Pelosi years ago.

The pink suited silence was loud in its eventual inaction. It proved that anyone can don something symbolic but not everyone can back it up.

Did you see that Republicans are now being advised NOT to hold town halls? https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/04/us/politics/gop-town-hall.html?searchResultPosition=2. Not a good look when you can't face your own people!

My Rep. said that since Congress is in session, he couldn't possibly do an in-person event. In a 55-45 Red district no less. Coward.

I don't think I've posted this here before...There was another country whose leaders weren't well liked & had personal problems. A foreign man showed up & solved one of the problems, so then they did everything the man told them to. Their people didn’t like that idea & eventually found a way to deal with it.

That foreign man’s name was Rasputin.

I needed the jokes mixed in with this; thank you. You are a superbly funny writer!

It took me a good couple of minutes to recover from:

"The politicians—who had dipped themselves in pink and/or held their paddles like they were at auction bidding on democracy but had left their wallets at home"

Also, thanks for the reminder.

God's blessing on Rep. Green. I have heard some purple condemnations of his actions from Democrats that leave me mumbling "What th--?" Love the "Useless in Pink" line (with apologies to Molly Ringwald). Even if someone disagrees with the method or would not do that themselves, thank God SOMEBODY was moved to bust a move and BREAK A RULE!

I'm a little late with my comment but as always want to thank you Kamau for pointing out that symbolic nothingness is just performative nonsense in the end. Like seeing Black Lives Matter yard signs in mostly upperclass neighborhoods. It'd like to think there is some thoughtful action behind that sign but I have my doubts. Like land acknowledgements with nothing behind them-- saying "Thanks for the land" without doing anything to protect it now that you live on it. Redbud Resource Group has a lot to say about that with their master class "Going Beyond Land Acknowledgements" https://www.redbudresourcegroup.org/. I remember wincing at the sight of Pelosi and Co. taking the knee in nicely art directed photo op. If the Senators want to do something like that again, I would gladly direct them to put on their 1970s glitter finery and provide the moves for them to all dance to the Isley Brother's "Fight The Power". I try, in my smallish ways, to stay true and strong with whatever actions I'm doing in my community by adding in effort and risk and mixing it up to something bigger.
